King Khan is all and well set to take the reins of the biggest Indian game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' that created history when it was introduced in its earlier avatar. 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' ('KBC') is the Indian adaptation of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' produced by Star India. It has replaced its host Amitabh Bachchan and has roped in Shah Rukh Khan to host this program. But how does he feel when the people say that he is stepping in Amitabh Bachchan's shoes? 'Badshah of Bollywood' shares his experience with smashits while he visited New Delhi to announce his acceptance of the game show as a host.
Excerpts of his talk:
How did you feel when STAR offered you to host KBC?
I was pleasantly surprised when STAR offered me the show. I was a participant in season one of KBC, and little did I know that one day I would be hosting it.
How does it feel when people say that you are stepping in Amitabh Bachchan's shoes?
Well, obviously I have to be patient while giving the answers to all such comparisons. When I acted in 'Devdas' or 'Don' or now when I will be doing 'KBC', comparisons are bound to be made. It is a huge act to follow, that of Mr. Bachchan, but hopefully the people would like it. Is it a comeback or full circle to the small screen?
It's going to be exciting for me. I am happy that I am getting an opportunity to reach out, talk and interact with my audience through a medium where I began my career several years ago. So, I am looking forward to coming full circle: guess 'unlock kiya jaaye'. What are your expectations from the show?
I hope it will be a good learning experience for me. I am looking forward to the show. I feel lucky to be part of the India's biggest game show. I hope audiences also like the show. But what I am excited about is that it will get to interact with audiences. Who is your favorite quiz master?
Mr. Bachchan and Siddhartha Basu are my favorite quiz masters. There is no need for any second thought.
Does that mean less of movies?
No way, see, I make three movies a year which means I work around 80/90 days for a movie and the rest of the time for 'KBC'. I am sure I will be able to do it. I am very professional and a committed person. (Winks)
What style are you going to follow?
Well, it would be Shah Rukh Khan style and the rest will be decided by Siddhartha Basu and Sameer Nair. And, it's the show that has the substance. The concept and format are the main substances of the show.
What's the duration of the contract?
I have been signed for two seasons of the show and have the option to continue for another season. The show is expected to go on air in January 2007.
