Katrina kaif is the latest feeling in Bollywood. She plays a model in Kaizad Gustad's 'Boom'. Though the movie was panned by the critics and shunned by the audiences, it did declare that Katrina is here to stay. Katrina newly declared that being part of 'Boom' was a mistake. Katrina talks at length about her personal and professional life with me.

Expert comments from the interview:

Tell us Katrina recently you had said that you were not happy by the way you were portrayed in 'Boom'?
Yes, when I signed the film I didn't know about the Indian culture and custom. I didn't know anything about picture making and the Indian film industry. I did not understand the repercussions of doing such a film. In UK exposing kissing and stuff is all right but no way can this be accepted here. I realized that your first film sets an image in the eyes of filmmakers and the audience. And it is definitely not the role that I want to be seen in.

• But then why did you accept the film offer. You knew that as a model in the film you will be required to expose and wear skimpy outfits?
  As I told you sensational is pretty much accepted in the English culture. They are used to watching models in bikinis or wearing skimpy clothes on the ramp. When the film was offered to me I was living in England. It looked so much real then. The movie was in English. As the script went along, there were changes. like any other professional, I just went about doing my work. I was not aware of the Indian culture and civilization then.
  
  
• So how was it working with Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff?
  It was great. I worked with Amitabh for a only some days and he was a thorough gentleman. I must speak that Amitabh does have this natural presence which you feel whenever he walks into a room. It was nice working with Jackie Shroff too.
  
  
• It was reported that due to your liaison with Salman Khan and because of your diction, you were thrown out of Mukesh Bhatt's film Saaya?
  Firstly 'thrown out' is not a word I'd like to use in this situation. It was director Anurag Basu's decision to not have me in the cast of the film. I'm sure he had his reasons to do so. I really don't know. But neither my diction, nor Salman is the reason why I was not a part of the film. Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt are reasonable people who wouldn't sign (or not sign) actors based on such issues. I don't think anyone can throw an actor out of a film because of his or her personal life. I fail to realize what is my skill to act (or not act) got to do with whom I'm seeing in my personal life? To top it all, I'm not even seeing Salman Khan.
  
  
• What film assignments do you have on hand?
  I am gathering producers and filmmakers and the negotiations are on. I've refused a few offers too because I was not happy with the banner. Right now I have just got to study about the Indian culture and Indian cinema and firstly I would like to adapt myself to it. I am taking this month off from work so that I can learn the Hindi language. I'm learning dance too.
  
  
• Is there any truth in the rumours about you and Salman Khan?
  I don't desire to say anything on this topic. I'm here to model. I'm here to work in films. I have completed my stand clear on that. If I divert these questions what will come in print will look something larger than life. And I don't what that to happen. I don't want make any comments.
  
  
• Okay, generally speaking, what kind of guys do you like?
  I know it sounds stupid but someone who is truthful and responsible. I am a very touching and loyal person. Thus the man in my life should be reliable and trust worthy. I want to be able to look into their eyes and know that I can rely on them. To be honest I've only ever had one boyfriend so I'm obviously not in any rush.

Katrina Kaif will be seen playing a bohemian fashion student in her new flick Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. The actor chats up Sreya Basu in Mumbai
Do we see Laila (your screen name) doing another Sheila Ki Jawaani in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara?

I asked Zoya (Akhtar, director) if there is room for Laila ki Jawaani in this film. I honestly tried to put a little item song in the bill. But I guess, it does not fit in a film like this. The boys (Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar) are the real item numbers of the film...I was there to kind-of support them. It's their track.

Talking about item numbers, Aamir Khan has said he will never take you for an item song because he is scared of Salman Khan. What do you have to say about that?

I will have a little chat with Aamir later...I have to get his number...may be from Zoya; she has done a film with him. I will ask him. (Smiles)


There are a lot of things you did for the first time in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara...

Yes. Zoya told us that there will be scuba diving and underwater sequences in the film. My character Laila, who is a fashion student in London, takes time off to teach scuba diving.



How did you prepare yourself for the underwater sequences?

It was my first time in doing anything like that. So I was trained for three days in the swimming pool at Otters Club in Mumbai. I thought it will be a cakewalk. At Otters Club, all we did was to sit at the bottom of the pool and scribble at the note pad that the director had given us; thinking this will be extremely easy. And then, cut to three months later when we came to shoot the sequence, we went out in a big boat and were told we are going to an hour into the ocean. I had fallen to sleep in the boat when it suddenly stopped and when I looked into the ocean from the edge of the boat, there was a storm...with 20 foot waves. It was like something straight out of a movie scene. We were all geared up with our suits and Zoya said 'jump'. I told her that I only practiced for three days and that too in a swimming pool and you want me to jump in the middle of the ocean and that too when there's a storm? She said: 'Yeah, yeah...jump.'

It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced...I was quite sure I was never coming up from the water again. And when we got back on the boat, the diving team told us that when we jumped, above our heads was a hammerhead shark. We waved our way in...so may be didn't notice. But we got ten heart attacks after hearing that. However, I must say, it was the most beautifully shot scene in the film.


We also see you riding a motorbike in the film...

I was actually trained to ride a bike...I was trained for about four-five days...it was really, really hard. And then Zoya shot with me for about three hours on the bike. But I really enjoyed it...it was fun. And now, I am seriously thinking of getting myself a bike and ride around Bombay.


Whom will you like to take on the backseat of your bike while riding around Mumbai?

Hrithik said he is up for. So, may be, will take him for a bike rider.
